Abstract
This chapter, in the book that accompanies the 2025 Cartier exhibition at the V&A, throws a new light on Cartier's innovative adaptations of historic and cross-cultural motifs, establishing the company's approach as one of intellectual curiosity that sets them apart from their contemporaries. Using the company's wide-ranging library of source material, recently fully listed and made available, this account reveals not only the depth of their knowledge of other cultures but also their ability to see parallels in cultural vocabularies that were continents or millenia apart.
