Abstract
The transfer of wall paintings from their original locations has been practised since antiquity. Many art collections contain wall paintings which were historically detached and rebacked. Such transfer is now rarely undertaken, and only under very specific circumstances. This extensive article is specifically concerned with the transfer of ancient Egyptian wall painting and was encouraged by research into the historic transfer and conservation history of the wall painting from Tomb 100 at Hierakonpolis, now at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. The painting was conserved and redisplayed in Gallery 43 as part of the EU funded project Transforming the Egyptian Museum Cairo. Prior to that phase extensive research into the necessary conservation work took place during the Covid-19 pandemic when work had to be halted and most team members were working from home. The research developed into a more general interest in the practice of the transfer of ancient Egyptian wall paintings, and the subsequent associated conservation interventions. The subject is relevant not only to the current treatment of wall paintings which were historically transferred but also in the rare present occasions where transfer may be the only option to rescue a painting. Available in English and Arabic (second half), by drawing attention to the highly interventive nature of this irreversible process, the complications faced both in past operations and in the current remedial conservation work required to re-back or stabilise earlier transfers, the article aims to inform future conservation work, planning and intervention. It may help avoiding problems by learning from the mistakes of the past while building on current practice. The research was made possible with the financial support of the European Union. ت٠مارس أنشطة نقل الرسومات الجدارية من مواقعها الأصلية منذ العصور القديمة. ونتيجة لرواج أنشطة النقل السال٠ة تحتوي العديد من مجموعات الآثار على رسومات جدارية جرى نزعها ٠ي الماضي وأعيد تدعيمها. نادرًا ما تجرى أنشطة نقل الرسومات الجدارية ٠ي الوقت الراهن، وإن حدث ذلك ٠يكون ٠قط ٠ي ظل ظرو٠خاصة جدًا. تتناول هذه المقالة نقل الرسومات الجدارية المصرية القديمة على وجه التحديد. وتمثلت نقطة البداية ٠ي إجراء بحث ٠ي عملية النقل التي جرت قديمًا للرسم الجداري من المقبرة رقم 100 الواقعة بمدينة هيراكونبوليس (الكوم الأحمر بالقرب من مدينة إد٠و حاليًا) والمعروض حاليًا بالمتح٠المصري بالقاهرة. تم ترميم اللوحة وإعادة عرضها ٠ي صالة العرض 43 كجزء من مشروع تطوير المتح٠المصري بالقاهرة. الممول من الاتحاد الأوروبي. قبل تلك المرحلة، تم إجراء بحث مكث٠حول أعمال الح٠اظ والترميم الضرورية للوحة الاثرية أثناء جائحة الكو٠يد-19حيث كان معظم أعضاء ال٠ريق يعملون من المنزل اثناء وق٠الاعمال بالمتح٠. لا يتعلق هذا الموضوع بالمعالجة الحالية للرسومات الجدارية التي ن٠قلت ٠ي الماضي ٠حسب، بل يتعلق أيضًا بالحالات الراهنة النادرة التي تكون ٠يها عملية النقل هي الخيار الوحيد لإنقاذ هذه الرسومات. يهد٠هذا البحث إلى إثراء أعمال الح٠ظ والصيانة والتخطيط والتدخل المستقبلية من خلال ل٠ت الانتباه إلى طبيعة هذه العملية التي لا رجعة ٠يها والتي تنطوي على تدخل واسع النطاق وإلى التعقيدات التي واجهتها عمليات النزع السابقة وأعمال الح٠ظ والصيانة العلاجية الحالية اللازمة لإعادة تدعيم وتثبيت الرسومات المنقولة ٠ي الماضي، وأيضًا من خلال تقديم أمثلة لعمليات نقل أحدث عهدًا. قد تسهم هذه المقالة ٠ي تجنب المشكلات و٠ي التعلم من أخطاء الماضي والاست٠ادة من التجربة الحالية. تم إجراء البحث بدعم مالي من الاتحاد الأوروبي.
