Abstract
In 2004 the British Museum received a bequest of 211 modern and contemporary prints and drawings from the London-based film critic Alexander Walker (1930–2003). Undoubtedly one of the most important bequests in recent years, the acquisition of these works has transformed and significantly expanded the Museum’s collection of modern and contemporary Western graphic art. This book includes a full catalogue of the works and a 10,000 word analytical essay about Walker's collection and his approach to collecting art. It also includes, as an afterword, an interview with Hamish Parker, another collector of modern and contemporary works on paper who has promised to leave his collection to the Museum, and a foreword by Stephen Coppel, Curator of the Modern Collections in the department of Prints and Drawings.
